Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Hello fellow Aviators,

On the release of EHLE Lelystad Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator we’ve received an overwhelming amount of reactions and questions. To answer many questions at ones, I’ve created a Frequently Asked Questions page.

  • PAPA HOTEL’s EHLE Lelystad Airport for MSFS is developed to give a true representation of the real life airport in the sim. The L apron, near the newly build terminal, is only in use in real life when aircraft are being refueled and the parking (1 in the sim) near the control tower is occupied. Airlines, like your Boeing 737’s and Airbus A320’s, are only allowed to land at Lelystad Airport with prior permission from ATC. Other then refueling, no services are available at the airport for any aircraft, except for perhaps an APU.

  • The Royal Schiphol Group acquired Vliegveld Lelystad, as it was known until then, in 1993 with the plans to move some 70.000, mostly holiday, flights from EHAM Schiphol Amsterdam International Airport to EHEH Eindhoven Airport and EHLE Lelystad Airport, as it is named since the acquisition. In 2017, the Dutch parliament and government finally approved Schiphol’s expansion plans for Lelystad Airport and work started right away in 2018. The runway was extended, a new taxiway on the north side of the airfield was created and a new passenger building was build to accommodate some 40.000 flights a year. However, the public opinion on aviation in the Netherlands has changed quite a bit and the commercial opening of the airfield has been postponed for numerous reasons multiple times now.

Since the extension work has been completed, the terminal and taxiway NOVEMBER have been closed for quite a long time. Last year, refuelling services at Lelystad Airport’s DELTA apron was limited due to the leg of contamination limiting surfaces at the parkings. Refuelling by the fuel truck was only allowed at the parking with the concrete apron in between the taxiways D1 and D2. While this parking was occupied, there was no refuelling by truck allowed, while the demand grew at the same time. This problem let to the decision to open up the north side of the airport, being TWY’s A, A1, A2, N, N1, N2, N3 and N4 and allowed visiting aircraft to be parked at the LIMA apron in front of the new passenger terminal that still is not in use. Visiting aircraft may be refuelled by the fuel truck at the LIMA apron, but no other services, other than a marshaller, are available at this time.

The scenery of EHLE Lelystad Airport for MSFS reflects real life operations at the airfield. The parkings are facing away from the terminal, as aircraft are being parked at the LIMA apron in real life. It’s being used as an ‘overflow’ parking. So yes, if you spawn from these parking positions, the aircraft will not align with the markings on the apron. They won’t I’m real life as well.

  • Yes! That’s the short answer. The bit longer one is that it’s part of the ongoing development plans for PAPA HOTEL’s EHLE Lelystad Airport. This scenery was born as a bit of a passion project and will probably never be finished for me personally. There will be a version of the scenery available in the future where the user can select the current version of the real life airport and the airfield it should be when it gets approval to receive commercial aviation. The version I’d like to offer you as simmers is one that asks for quite a bit more development though. This and other features it will come, but in due time. Please check the NOTAM’s (like any proper pilot should) on our Discord to keep up-to-date on our latest developments.

  • Since the launch of EHLE Lelystad Airport for MSFS, the scenery has been accepted by Microsoft for the Marketplace. However, testing resulted in acceptation only for PC, not for Xbox. We’re currently working on further optimisation of the scenery so it will be accepted to the Marketplace for the console as well. This is easier said than done though, as testing the scenery without access to a console is pretty difficult. It comes down to trail and error and keep sending updates to Asobo to get accepted. I would like nothing more than to accomplish this and have Xbox users also be able to enjoy this scenery.

  • I am well aware if this and it’s been bugging me, pardon the pun, for quite some time now. I’ve had discussions with quite a few other developers. The problem seems to be that we dev’s can’t control these vehicles. They seem to be part of the ‘living world’ and the visibility is controlled by the ‘Airport Vehicle Density’ slider in the menu. It seems that quite a number of airport sceneries have a problem like this. I will continue to try to come up with a proper solution to end my annoyance. Keep an eye on the NOTAM’s for the changelogs in future updates!

  • Yes. And no… When runways or taxiways are closed, the pavement is marked by yellow painted crosses. The crosses on EHLE Lelystad Airport’s runway 05-23 are painted black. They are reminiscent of Lelystad’s expansion.

In preparation of the planned 2018 opening of the airfield for commercial traffic, Lelystad Airport’s runway has been widened and extended while the airfield was still open for traffic taking off and landing at the old runway. First, a new section of the runway’s tarmac has been layout down, with the yellow crosses painted on them. Then they were removed when the old part of the runway was closed down, to be widened and resurfaced.

If you look closely in Google Earth, you’ll find these crosses, as well as the markings for the temporary thresholds of runways 05 and 23, still on the runway.

  • No… That’s the short answer, at least for now. Although the livery packs had been designed for the new simulator, on release of the sim the liveries didn’t work. We’ve been working 2 weeks non-stop trying to get them to work, one way or another, but in the end the promise that all products in the Marketplace doesn’t seem to be true for these livery packs.

The nuanced answer is this: Asobo has introduced a new LOD system for MSFS 2024. After some careful analyses of the new default C172, it seems this aircraft has been changed to meet the criteria for this new system. The airframe is not one single model anymore, but as good practice is for the new LOD system, the airframe is 'chopped up’ in separate pieces. It’s got new and more textures, hence why the liveries for the old aircraft don’t work anymore.

We have to completely recreate all the liveries from scratch for the new simulator. This is not yet possible, as the files for the Cessna C172 are currently encrypted. Once we’re able to access these files, we’ll be starting work on the version of the C172 and make them available in an update for your current purchase.

We’re working hard on all of the items above. And rest assured, that when we’ve got answers for ourselves, we’ll be communicating these to you.
